Work on Managi Dam in Kunar to be launched Soon

Minister of Water and Energy Ismael Khan announced on Thursday that the survey for the Managi Dam in Pech District of eastern Kunar Province was completed and works would be launched within two weeks.

The project would cost USD 3m and would produce 2.5 Mw of power per hour.

Kunar residents are still faced with power outages.

“Families in Kunar still use kerosene lamps to lit their homes,” said Shah Mahmud, a tribal elder from Asadabad.

Another 12 km cannel would be constructed in Narang district of the province at a cost of USD 82m afs, according to Minister Khan’s statement, to prevent the yearly flooding of the Kundar River.

However, head of provincial council Mia Hassan criticised the government for importing electricity from other countries while the Kunar River flows to Pakistan without benefiting the country.
