At a meeting arranged by the Afghan-German and Freidrich Ebert Foundations in Kabul on Tuesday, some independent non-governmental entities proposed suggestions with respect to economic development that they want them to be placed before the Tokyo conference.
The Afghan-German Foundation, Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) put forward their recommendations.
Chairman Qayamuddin Jalalzada from Afghan-German Foundation suggested facilitating foreign investment, developing mining, agriculture and power sector after 2014. He also commented on increasing transparency in the mining projects.
He recommended exploitation of local resources and urged authorities to copy regional models and recruit and train Afghan experts. With regards to the agriculture sector, Mr. Jalalzada said that his Foundation has outlined a few recommendations as well. The recommendations would be submitted in the form of a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
ACCI head Mohammad Qurban Haqjo called for the government and the international community to pay more attention to the economic development. He acknowledged the government had several programmes, but lacked the political will to implement them.
An official from AISA, Roohullah Ahmadzai, suggested the creation of raw material processing factories in the country. He also sought better security for mines to encourage foreign investment.
Commerce and Industries Minister Anwarul Haq Ahadi promised to the participants that 90% of their recommendations would be placed before the Tokyo conference.
