A pact on financial assistance of worth USD 151m was signed between Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and US embassy today in Kabul.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Javed Ludin appreciated America’s continued assistance and said, “America’s lifelong collaboration has saved Afghanistan from destruction.”
He further added that people of Afghanistan will always remain grateful for America’s assistance and is proud of it.
He emphasized that this agreement is part of the financial document that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and America had signed in March of this year.
Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan James B. Cunningham said, “We are hopeful that the granted aid will be spent on the planned projects.”
This comes amid complaints and concerns expressed by economic experts over mismanagement of foreign aid to Afghanistan.
According to the economic experts, despite the influx of billions of aid into Afghanistan, no significant changes have been brought in the country.
The money will go towards development of treatment centers for drug addicts and strengthening of anti-drug legislation.
Mr. Cunningham strongly condemned the killing of Ahmed Khan Samangani, member of Afghanistan’s Wolesi Jirga.
Mr. Ludin also gave his condolences and said, “People of Afghanistan will fight against the enemies of our soil until their last drop of blood is shed.”
