US and British envoys to Afghanistan confirmed transparency in awarding the contract to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) for oil and gas exploration in the Amu River.
This comes after the Western media had rising concerns about the bidding process, claiming that the process lacked transparency.
President Karzai had met with the British and US ambassador to seek explanation about the media’s claim.
The two ambassadors told President Karzai that the contract was processed under observation of experts and they confirmed that it was fully transparent and in line with international standards and Afghan laws.
Chinese state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) last year won a bid to develop oil blocks in the Amu River’s basin in northern Sar-i-Pul province.
