The Insurance Group of Afghanistan received its license from the Ministry of Finance on Saturday in a ceremony at Kabul Serena Hotel from the Ministry of Finance.
Speaking at the conference, IGA’s President Sakeena Banu Ghazanfar emphasized on laying out a safe environment for Afghan businessmen and investors.
Qurban Ali Haqjo, Chief of Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, called on the government to take legal actions against companies that are seeking insurance illegally offshore.
“Most business and organizations in Afghanistan are insured offshore illegally and no one is aware of it,” said Mr. Haqjo.
Afghanistan saw its first private commercial insurance company in 2007 with the establishment of Insurance Corporation of Afghanistan ICA.
The field of insurance is recently introduced to Afghan businesses and public. It is an important factor for fostering of investment, which is the key for a country’s future growth.
