The Head of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IED), Fazel Ahmad Manawi, said on Wednesday that in order to have a free presidential election devoid of any fraud a budget of USD 80M is required.
The discussion on budget is in progress with international donors, and it will be transferred to the election commission through the Ministry of Finance.
The new election process will generate more than 45,000 job opportunities to Afghan citizens.
According to Mr. Manawi’s statement, candidate and voter registration will begin by 1392 (March 2013). He emphasized that no government authority or foreign authority can intervene in the election process or results and urged government, political parties and civil society members to cooperate.
He further added that the Afghan national force will take responsibility for security during the election process.
