Afghan traders must pay attention to the quality and production date of food items

Afghan Ministry of Public Health discovered 4 tons of expired food in Kabul City and destroyed them.

The Ministry requested traders of the private sectors to avoid importing expired and low quality items into the country otherwise they will face legal actions.

MoPH, attended by a mixed staff of the Kabul Municipality, Attorney General and Criminal Investigation Department in Kabul province, launched a one-day campaign to collect poor quality and harmful food. Four tons of expired foods were discovered in the Bush Bazaar, as a result 19 stores were shut down.

Kabul City residents have complained to the Ministry about the poor quality of food items sold in the market.

In the present, food items are mostly imported from Pakistan and Iran into Afghanistan. Ministry officials say that most of these items enter Afghanistan illegally.

In addition to food items, expired drugs are brought into the country as well.
