This was the first ever exhibition held on Halal foods that are produced in accordance with international standards.
Afghan food products were also exhibited. In addition, Afghan carpets and handicrafts were also put on display.
Halal food production forms a big portion of businesses in countries where a significant portion of the population is Muslims. Muslims, as per Islamic principles, are prohibited from consumption of certain meats like pork. Hence, pork is considered Haram (forbidden) for Muslims. Improper slaughter of animals is also forbidden in Islam. is the prescribed method of slaughtering all animals excluding fish and most sea-life per Islamic law. This method of slaughtering animals consists of using a well sharpened knife to make a swift, deep incision that cuts the front of the throat, the carotid artery, wind pipe and jugular veins but leaves the spinal cord intact. The animal is then hung upside-down and left to bleed out.
The head of an animal that is slaughtered using halal methods is aligned with the Qiblah (the direction facing Mecca). In addition to the direction, permitted animals should be slaughtered in the name of God.
Representatives of Afghanistan’s business circles thought of this exhibition as a means to expand trade relations between Afghanistan and Russia.
Russia is among countries that have close ties with Afghanistan and large numbers of Afghan citizens live in different cities of the country, including Moscow.
